S9 is name given to the extended inoculum commonly known as Cow Pat Pit (CPP). CPP is produced with the help of BD502-507 along with few other inputs like basalt and crushed eggshells. Fungal and bacterial plate tests of the S9 (CPP) at different laboratories indicate presence of a wide range of colonies or families of fungi and bacteria that proliferate during the fermentation of the cow dung and other ingredients used for CPP production. Some of the identified active microbial consortiums in S9 (CPP) are Rhizobium, Azotobacter, Azospirillum, PSB and Antagonisms like Trichoderma, Beauveria and Bacillus group. S9 also contains number of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria and plant hormones like Gibberellic acid, Indole Acetic acid and Cytokinin.

Applications and Benefits

• Compositing – S9 is used as a compost starter for making good quality compost within 60-70 days with 30% cow dung and 70% bio-mass. S9 hastens the composting period of hard organic material and enhances the nutritive value of compost. As a compost inoculum, 1kg of S9 is used for 1 to 1.5 tons of crop residues/biomass and dung heaps.
• In-situ mulching – Sugarcane farmers and other such farmers who have large volumes of agri-waste and biomass remains in the field/farm can use S9 sprays to start affective mulching activity on the farm. 3kgs of S9 is used per acre of land for in-situ composting of remaining crop residues.
• Seed/root treatment – S9 is one of the most effective methods for seed/root treatments. Its application encourages better seed germination and secures the roots from soil borne fungal diseases. 1kg of S9 is used per 35-40kgs of seeds for seed treatment. 1kg per acre of S9 is needed for root treatment of seedlings during transplantation.
• Foliar spray – S9 is used as foliar spray over standing crop for replenishing and rectifying trace elements deficiencies. A growth stimulant, it is applied before flowering. Approximately 3kg of S9 is used per acre.
• Tree Pasting – S9 is used for tree pasting on horticulture crops like Apple, Orange, Mango, Guava, etc. It is also used on pruned parts of trees and grafts to promote rooting of cuttings and success of grafting. Its usage also helps prevent fungal infections. 1kg of tree paste is prepared for application on 40 trees.
• Soil Conditioning – S9 is used to enhance humus building process that leads to soil texture improvement. S9 provides desired nutrients and stimulates plant growth by enhancing soil microbial population. It also provides protection against fungal diseases.
• Biodynamic Liquid Manures – S9 is used to make BD liquid manures.
